Do Wedding Bands Have to Match?

One of the most exciting parts of wedding planning is choosing your new wedding bands. Unlike many parts of the wedding, which only last a day, your bands become a treasured possession you can cherish for a lifetime. These rings become a symbol of your commitment to one another, and they also become reminders of your special day.
Sometimes, soon-to-married couples know exactly what they are looking for when it comes to wedding bands. But, more often, they feel a little lost.
One of the most common questions we get is, “Should we purchase matching wedding bands?”
Do Weddings Bands Have to Match?
Here’s the answer:
It’s entirely up to you! There really is no right or wrong answer when it comes to matching or not matching your wedding bands.
However, for various reasons, most couples today do not go with matching bands.
Typically, the bride will want a band that complements her engagement ring, while the groom will want a wider ring that looks nice on its own. Purchasing rings that are exactly alike usually means that one or both of you will be compromising the look you want. If you’re OK with that, then go for it!
But if you don’t like the idea of sacrificing what you want in order to match, here’s the good news. You can both get what you want from your wedding bands and still have rings that complement one another (and will look great in your wedding pictures)!
Here are some ways you can your wedding bands can “go together” without necessarily matching:
Gold color
One way to have complementing bands is to choose the same gold color. White gold and platinum are the most popular looks today, but many couples enjoy the look of yellow gold or rose gold, as well. If you can’t choose just one, you can always go with a two-tone option.
Finish and Design
If you want your rings to be even more similar, you can opt for rings with the same finishes or designs. Some popular finishes include satin, brushed, milgrain, and engraved.
You can also choose design elements that go nicely together. For example, Tacori wedding bands all include their iconic crescent symbol, which ties both of your rings together and looks incredible in pictures! And since all of their rings include these design elements, you still have tons of options for choosing a band that speaks to you.
