Tips For Taking Photos Of Your New Engagement Ring

One of the first things couples do after they get engaged is try to get a picture of the ring to share with family and friends. You might notice, though, getting the perfect ring photo is harder than you thought. Here are some tips for taking photos of your new engagement ring.
Tips for Photographing Engagement Rings
Find Some Great Lighting
Like any photography, great lighting is the key to getting a great engagement ring photo. If you want your ring to really sparkle and look its best, find some natural light to photograph it in. Camera flashes and other artificial light can leave white spots in your pictures that distract from the beauty of your ring. An indirect light source, such as a window, is ideal.
Set Up the Background
Make sure you have a great background for your picture. You can use a plain white backdrop, or something more elaborate. Just make sure that the background of the picture is attractive and not overly distracting. If you’re at home and there’s a mess, shove it to the side (hey, we all do it).
You can also incorporate some seasonal elements. For example, if you got engaged in the fall, try posing with some pumpkins or fall foliage in the background. If it’s winter and there’s snow on the ground, get outside and take a picture in the snow! These details take your photos to the next level and also serve as a fun reminder of when you first got engaged.
Find Your Engagement Ring Pose
Next, you’ll want to decide how you will pose for your engagement ring photos. Do you want the picture to be of just you, you and your significant other, or just the ring by itself? You can also do one of each!
If you’re posing with your ring, be sure to hold your hand up in a position that the ring is noticeable. You may have to try a few times to find the angle that showcases your particular engagement ring in the best way.
Some engagement ring hand poses to try:
- Holding your hand out in front of your face
- Holding a cup or other prop
- Your hand flat on top of a desk or table
- Your hand touching your nose (make sure your face looks excited!)
- Your palm facing the camera with your ring turned around
You can also search Google or Pinterest for some inspiration!
Set Up a Tripod or Use a Selfie Stick for the Perfect Ring Selfie
If you’re trying to get the perfect engagement ring selfie, you’ll probably want some tools to help. A tripod with a remote can make a world of difference to how your pictures turn out. If you don’t want to invest in a tripod, you can also try a selfie stick. Experiment with different angles of your ring to find out what looks the best.
The Best Ring Pictures for Social Media
The best ring pictures for social media are ones that are clear, have great lighting, and tell a story. Your photo will most likely tell the world “WE’RE ENGAGED,” so you want this message to be obvious. Your picture (or pictures) can also tell the story of how the proposal happened. If you choose to include more than one photo, try to get a close up of the ring so everyone can marvel at its beauty!
Great Pictures Start With Choosing the Right Engagement Ring
Of course, getting the best engagement ring pictures starts when selecting a ring. If you want a ring that sparkles in pictures and videos (and in real life), it’s important to choose a diamond that plays with light efficiently. This is where “cut” comes into play, and we don’t just mean diamond shape.
