Where Should You Keep an Engagement Ring Before Proposing?

Where Should You Keep an Engagement Ring Before Proposing?

It’s time to answer another “frequently asked question” that we hear at Koser:

Where should you keep the engagement ring if you bring it home and aren’t proposing for a while?

It might seem silly, but this is a fair question! After all, an engagement ring is one of the most significant purchases you may ever make. And, unlike a car or a house, it is possible to misplace it if you aren’t careful. You also need to make sure you hide it in a place where the bride-to-be can’t accidentally find it.

So, Where Should You Keep an Engagement Ring Before Proposing?

One option is to leave your engagement ring with us, your jeweler, until it’s time to propose. We don’t do this all the time, but it is possible if you are genuinely at a loss about where to hide your ring. (Call us ahead of time to work out details!)

You can also look into storing your ring in a safe deposit box at your bank. This is a great option that will ensure your ring is secure and can’t be accidentally stumbled upon by your future fiancee!

Whether you choose one of these options or prefer to hide the ring at home, it’s best to have it insured right away — even if you aren’t planning to propose for a while.

What If I’m Proposing on a Trip?

If you’re planning to propose while traveling, take special care not to hand your ring off to a stranger. We suggest keeping the engagement ring in your carry-on luggage rather than checked baggage. That way, it never leaves your possession.

We can offer you a small ring box or pouch that fits nicely in your pocket, but be mindful of security checks at airports. You don’t want anyone ruining the surprise!
