How to Take Pictures of Rings

Have you ever tried photographing your engagement ring only to be left disappointed at the result? It’s no wonder – taking Instagram-worthy ring pictures is no easy task!

Here are some tips to help you get the perfect picture of your engagement ring!

Have the Right Tools Handy

Start with a good camera (or your phone) and a clean lens. If you’re using your phone to take pictures, go into your settings and turn the resolution up as high as it will go. It can also be helpful to use a tripod but it’s usually not necessary.

Find Some Good Lighting

Good photos require good lighting! If possible, find a window with indirect sunlight. Try to avoid direct sunlight, which can be TOO bright. If you don’t have an indoor spot with great lighting, take your pictures outside!

When taking photos outdoors, the best lighting (according to professional photographers) is during “the golden hour.” The golden hour is just after sunrise or the hour before sunset.

Set the Scene

Next, you’ll want to set the scene. If you’re taking pictures at your house, clear some space so there’s no clutter visible in the background. If you’d like, you can also set up an attractive backdrop. If you’re outside, find a spot that will be attractive in the background of your photo. Trees, flowers, and other natural elements make beautiful backgrounds!

Strike a Pose

Depending on the type of picture you’re going for, you’ll need to decide how to pose. Do you want to be in the photo or are you just trying to get ring pictures? Do you want your hand in the photo?

If you want to be in the picture with your engagement ring, make sure your hand is Instagram-ready. You don’t have to have a perfect manicure, but make sure your hands are clean and moisturized. Then, try playing with different hand “poses” until you find one that suits you and your ring. (Check out the pics below for inspo!)

How to Pose Your Engagement Ring For Photos

If you’re wanting a photo of just your ring (without you), you may need to experiment with different angles. For example, you can take a picture of your ring in its box or lying on top of its box. You can also be creative with props. Check out some of the pics below for inspiration!

When “posing” your ring, you’ll want to consider what details you want to capture. Does your engagement ring have a stunning profile with lots of detail? Then you may want to capture those details in a side angle photo. If your favorite aspect of your ring is the center diamond, take your photos straight on so that your diamond is the focus.

Capturing photos that truly do your engagement justice can be tricky. But if you start with the right tools, find some good lighting, and experiment with different angles and poses, the result will be pictures that you’ll treasure for a lifetime!
